Shurik’n
Geoffroy Mussard, known as ‘Shurik’n’, born on 11th March 1966 in Marseille, is a French hip hop artist with Malagasy and Réunionnais origins. He is one of the members of the highly successful group IAM created in 1989, as well as a major solo artist.
Geoffroy adopted the stage name Shurik’n Chang-Ti, reflecting his interest in Oriental culture and his background in martial arts, such as judo, karate and kung fu. IAM released its first album, De la Planète Mars, in 1990.
After three albums with IAM and a joint venture with his brother, Faf Larage (Raphaël Mussard) on the compilation disc Chroniques de Mars, Shurik’n decided to start pursuing a solo career with his 1998 album Où je vis. The album went directly to the top of the French album charts and became a double gold disc. In parallel, Shurik’n continued to work with IAM, who released its fifth album, Revoir un printemps, in 2003. The group released its most recent album Saison 5, in April 2007.
On 23rd April 2012, Shurik’n brought out his second solo album, Tous m’appellent Shu.
